The detailed program shown for the performance space of my building also includes space for one of the cyclorama paintings done of the civil war. The painting is currently on site and is within an abandoned structure. The painting will be permanently housed in my proposed building and serve a function as a mechanical piece of the overall program.

Program Analysis, Thesis Prep II, Iteration I
The idea of the refrigerator came to me while trying to think of an abstracted interpretation of the “machine for living.” When racking my brain I discovered that my idea of entropy, which is to convey a sense of decay over materiality, brought to light the decay of food and our attempts to prevent such an event through cooling. The refrigerator was born in my mind at the object that represented my project. As further investigation into this link between preservation/entropy/machine for living/site(Gettysburg)/ect.. I saw an idea of proformance. Through performance, I saw the image of this machine in our kitchen as a structure that put on plays to a certain degree. The Thanksgiving meal; a major performance, thus deserving the main central shelves. The leftovers and everyday; the items that occur but have no strong value yet are part of the overall profomance. The Fruits and Veggies; a base theme, a specific element that has a special place, in this case a the two bins at the bottom. Here they are to be preserved better than the rest as the rot more requently. Lastly the platters; another large performance, yet more delicate, less open and more deserving a high place on the shelves. All tie into an image of a performance within the insulated walls of this contemporary machine.

Represented here is an analysis of a performance space within a “machine for living.” What is seen, is an organization of space within a refrigerator as it relates to a preformance. In correlation to the site the shelves here divide an idea of space and set a “base” for the actions that take place. On the bottom there is the reenactment of the battlefield that would stand at the base performance of this “machine.” While at the top, a contemporary dance bring a contrast to the traditional form and casts a contemporary image on the site.
